Notes for THOMAS GREY:
The Light Railway & Tramway Journal April 5, 1907

Article about the patent on a piece of machinery which Thomas Grey had invented.

Extract from the Erith Observer, incorporated with the North Kent Observer
No. 2607 Friday April 13, 1917.

Death of Mr Tom Grey. One of the oldest and best-known residents passed away on Tuesday afternoon at Cambridge Cottage, Kentish Road, Belvedere, in the person of Mr Tom Grey, at the age of 67 years. A boilermaker by trade, he for many years identified himself with the Labour movement and was also a prominent supporter of the Liberal Party. As a platform speaker he had a sytle of oratory quite his own, and was always in demand, when his racy anecdotes and narratives of his personal experiences as a working man, were always appreciated. For several years he had a seat on the Erith Urban Council, and took considerable interest in the provision of a public swimming bath. He also assisted the temperance movement, as a speaker, and was frequently heard at Brotherhood meetings. He possessed a most kindly and genial disposition, and although of late years he had not been so much in the limelight as formerly, all who knew him will retain a pleasant memory of one who tried to do his duty as a citizen of the Empire. The funeral takes place on Saturday afternoon.

Extract from the Erith Observer, etc.

The 7th Canadian, 47th and 16th USA General Hospitals arrived later, but all of the hospitals had closed by March 1919. As the original military cemetery at Le Treport filled, it became necessary to use the new site at Mont Huon. There are now 2,128 Commonwealth burials of the First World War in the cemetery and seven from the Second World War. The cemetery also contains more than 200 German war graves. The cemetery was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield.
