I found your genealogy web page through a google search on the name
"Abigail Jemima". It appears that your Jarvis lineage and my husband's
are one and the same. William and Abigail had another son, who I think
was their first born (1840) named Samuel Angus Jarvis. My husband is
descended from Samuel. They also had a sister Abigail, but I haven't yet
found any other children. Apparently both Samuel and William ended up in
Greenwich. I would be interesting in swapping family information with
you.

Spelling variations include: Gervais, Gervays, Gervis, Jarvis, Jervis and others.
First found in in Cornwall. The Gervais surname also spelled Jarvis, Gervays and Gervis, was first found in Mobonnaiss and Vallee, in Brettagne, the ancient name for Brittany, and arrived in England with William, Duke of Normandy, in 1066.
Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: the family who migrated to Ile de France and were later found in Holland. This Acadian family settled in the New World in the early 1600's. Others who came from England included John Jarvis who landed in Salem Massachusetts in 1630 and Thomas Gervais who settled in Maryland in 1634; Robert Jervis settled in Virginia in 1660; Richard Jervis settled in Maryland in 1720; Francis Jervis settled in Pennsylvania in 1686; John Jervis settled in New York State in 1775. and others.
